Our November conferences are quickly approaching and we wanted to share an update regarding the format of conferences at SWS.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, November 28 from 4:30-8:00 and on Friday, November 29 from 8:00am-1:00pm. There is no school for students on Friday, November 29 due to conferences.
There will be two different formats for conferences, depending on your child’s grade and program.
Grades 5 & 6 and PLP:
If your child is in grade 5 or 6, or in the specialized PLP program, conference times can be booked through your parent MyCBE account. After logging in, the “Welcome to MyCBE” page will appear with four different colored boxes. Please click on the purple box to book your 10 minute conference.
The PLP and grade 5 & 6 teachers work in partnerships so you will only have to book one conference time to see both of your child’s teachers. Conferences will be held in one of your child’s classrooms.
· PLP: Ms. Jaime & Ms. McElroy
· Grade 5: Ms. Hayward (5-2) & Mr. Bjartveit (5-1)
· Grade 5: Ms. Jorgensen (5-3) & Ms. Steinfeld (5-4)
· Grade 6: Ms. Lappin (6-4) & Ms. Vonka (6-3)
· Grade 6: Ms. Unterschutz (6-1) & Mr. Smith (6-2)
Grades 7, 8 & 9:
We recognize the importance of fair and equitable opportunities for parents/guardians to connect with teachers. Students in grades 7-9 have multiple teachers and some of the teachers have 150+ students. Given these complexities, scheduling and booking conferences is very difficult. We believe that changing the face of conferences will be helpful in terms of creating more opportunities for parents/guardians to connect with teachers.
This year, Grades 7-9 teachers will be available in the gathering space and main gym. They will have individual tables and chairs for parents/guardians to join in conversation, with space between tables to allow for some privacy. This format means that NO BOOKING IS REQUIRED FOR GRADES 7, 8 & 9. Please come when it works for you and your schedule.
Chairs will be available to use while waiting for the teacher that you would like to meet with. There will certainly be busier times than others, however, teachers will do their best to give everyone a reasonable amount of time. In the moment, if teachers feel like more time might be required, they will offer to continue the discussion at a different time.
Lost & Found, Storm Swag
During conferences, the lost and found will be on display by the front doors. There are a lot of really nice clothes that would like to be taken home. Please visit the display and claim items that have been missing from your child’s closet. Anything left over after conferences will be donated.
Storm Swag will be available for purchase in the middle of the gym. Pick up a hoodie, sweatpants, toques and shirts to wear proudly at school and in the community! Cash and cards will be accepted.
If you have any questions about conferences, please reach out to the homeroom teacher.
We are looking forward to connecting with you on November 28 and 29!
