October 4th
Sam Shaw – Parent Message
Good afternoon parents, we hope this finds you well as we start October. I want to take the time to express my gratitude to the many of you that were able to join us a few weeks ago at our Parent / Teacher / Conferences. It was a really nice feeling to the school with so many connections being made. This is an extension of the Townhall sessions that we had at the start of September.
As we move into October through December we know it will be a great time to enter into some good learning momentum. Teachers are using some of their baseline assessment to inform themselves with the next right steps as we enter into the next few months.
We want to thank our parents for supporting their student who is wanting to attend sporting events away from Sam Shaw School. We want to remind our community that in order for students to attend games at other school they are required to be with a parent. Our school is hosting basketball in a couple weeks and our students are welcome to stay for the first game to cheer on, we do ask however at the second game and beyond that they have a parent with them. We want our athletes to feel the energy that fans bring and we are hoping this support will help contribute to that feeling.
We want to share our schedule for open gym. We are excited to have the gym open at lunchtime for our students. On Monday/Tuesday/ Thursday the gym has an open door approach with those students wanting to be active may do so. On Wednesday we are creating space for our female students to access the space. This approach is in response to the feedback we have from our students in previous years' surveys and want to be responsive to student voice. We have seen tremendous participation so far and know that it will continue to grow.
I also want to share the initiative that your Parent Council is supporting around Healthy Hunger days at the school. The following dates are the Healthy Hunger dates for the year:
Oct 19

Torrie from the Parent Council has also asked us to send this message out in connection with Healthy Hunger:
Dear SWS Parents and Guardians,
Our first Healthy Hunger lunch of the year is scheduled for Thursday, October 19 with Subway. The deadline to order this lunch is Saturday, October 14th.
If you already have an account, you should be good to go. If you don't have an account, you will need to follow the account set-up steps on the website www.healthyhunger.ca.
You will need to know your CHILD'S CLASSROOM and TEACHER to add them for this year and make your order with a CREDIT CARD. Orders and payments are online only - the school office will not accept payments or orders. When ordering your student's lunches, please ensure you have paid online for the lunches. You will receive an email receipt once your payment has gone through (check your junk mail for this.) You have not completed your order if you did not receive an email receipt. Orders can be paid online only.
If you can volunteer for Healthy Hunger, please send an email to swshealthyhunger@gmail.com. You are required to have your CBE and police clearance to volunteer for this as you will be in the school with students. The time commitment is about an
Thank you for supporting SWS fundraising initiatives."

We are grateful to our Parent Council for all the support we receive from them in support of the students here at Sam Shaw.
