Sam Shaw – Parent Message
Good afternoon and happy Sunday to the Sam Shaw families out there. We hope that you are having a nice Sunday. We want to start this week by thanking the parents that were able to attend the Parent Council meeting Thursday night. We had close to 20 parents show up to contribute to the conversations. We thank our parents for contributing to the conversations about the next right steps at Sam Shaw.
One aspect that was discussed was opportunities for volunteers at Sam Shaw. As we re-discover the opportunities for learning after a few years of disrupted learning it will mean more field trips and learning opportunities for students. If you are a volunteer please know how much we appreciate your contribution to the opportunities for learning for our students. If you are a volunteer and have a skill set and are looking for ways to support the school we are open to exploring the many ways we can welcome in a variety of skill sets into the learning at Sam Shaw. We welcome these conversations from those that are interested in volunteering at the school.
We had our first fun lunch this past week, we also thank parents for participating in these types of events. Thanks to our volunteer parents who helped out as we appreciated the extra hands at lunch. Our next one is November 19th, we are looking for support for that event already. Please send us an email if you can come and help out at lunch. Our lunchtime is from 1:04 – 1:41.
We want to thank all the spectators that we had last week as we hosted basketball all week. Our teams are gradually making their way through the season and are doing an amazing job of representing our school. Soccer season comes to an end this week and we hope the snow holds off so the last games can be played.
This past Friday we had a day where teachers were looking at 23-24 School Development Planning. As we finalize that plan we will be sure to share out the plans for the year.
The following is a message from our grade 9 Leadership Students:
Halloween Dance on Tuesday, October, 31st:
We will be pre-selling Halloween dance tickets, along with pizza and pop Monday, October 23rd to Thursday October 26th at lunch. Leadership students will be selling tickets to grades 5 and 6 in their classroom, while your grade 7/8/9 student(s) can find us outside of the learning commons. The tickets are being sold for $2 and an option to also buy a slice of pizza for $2 and pop for $2, however if you buy all three it is $5.
We will be inviting students who want to wear a costume to school to be able to do so. The costumes need to be school appropriate, no masks or fake weapons please. Grade 5/6 will have access to their dance during periods 3 and 4, while grade 7/8/9 students will have their dance during periods 5 and 6. Students who purchase pizza and pop will be given a coupon and will pick up their pizza on October 31st during lunch. There will be other snack options sold during the dance as well.
If you don’t attend the dance there will be an alternate classroom/space/activity for these students. The Leadership Students are excited to put on this event for our students at Sam Shaw!
Thank you
Grade 9 Leadership.
As I type this there are many parents volunteering at our casino. We want to thank all the families and volunteers that are supporting this important fundraiser for our school.
Enjoy the snow this week and stay well everyone.
