Sam Shaw – Parent Message  

Good morning and happy Sunday to our Shaw families.  We hope this finds you well after our first week of snow as we welcome a change for the next few months and bring in November later this week.   

We have a couple significant aspects coming our way as we make our way towards our Fall Break. Starting with our first dance of the year as we host a Halloween dance on Tuesday.  The students are getting excited for this, and we are excited to be able to bring our student community together around schoolwide opportunities like this.   

The next significant gathering for our community will be the Remembrance Day observance. It will be held on Wednesday November 8th at 10am.  Any community members that would like to join us for this observance are welcome to do so.   

Just a quick update in regard to some other recent events at the school.  We have had a couple false alarms this year where the school needed to respond and evacuate accordingly.  When an alarm goes off, we will always respond accordingly and ensure our students, staff and visitors are safe.  When these circumstances occur emergency services also respond accordingly and ensure everyone is safe.  When these events are unplanned, we conduct investigations the best way we can and respond appropriately. The second area of concern lately is vandalism in the bathrooms.  We are again attempting to respond appropriately when these events occur.  It has resulted in some bathrooms being closed while repairs occur.  Both these circumstances cause challenges at the school and come with them financial repercussions that are impactful through the school.  We will be visiting the classrooms through the week and reinforcing the expectations around these two aspects that have far-reaching consequences.  We will be asking for help from our student body around, when you see something, we need you to say something.  This includes the strategy to talk with parents, with staff and with administration in ways that support our community in good ways.  We know how to support these conversations in confidential ways and at the end of the day we want to continue to create a community here at Sam Shaw where students can influence their school in good ways.
