Sam Shaw – Parent Message

Good morning and happy Sunday to our Shaw families.  We hope this finds you well after enjoying an extra hour to your Sunday morning.

We want to celebrate the culture of our school this past week as we had many “spirit week” events through this past week where students and staff were able to have some of that fun at school. We had our Halloween dance, our “dress like a teacher / student”, “anything but a backpack” and our “dress like Adam Sandler: days this past week. These are always a lot of fun to have at school and really let the personality of our students come alive at the school and we appreciated the manner in which our students responded so well all week. Our Leadership students are already working on the next event.

This coming week we will see the first attempt at a “Fall Break” for schools on a traditional calendar. Coming from a setting where we were a modified calendar, I can share that these breaks can really help propel good learning time between breaks. The students have been finding their learning routines as of late and we are seeing some good learning being presented. After the “Fall Break” we know it is a good 5 weeks until the Winter Break. This will give our students the opportunity to find that rhythm and again dive into their learning in good ways. All of this will enable us to have some thoughtful conversations later this month at conferences.

On Wednesday we will be having our Remembrance Day observance. Those within our community that would like to join us are welcome to come. We are starting at around 10:00am and will run through to around 11:00am. Please join us if you can.

This coming Thursday staff will be coming together to participate in professional learning focused on our commitment to improving our understanding of the journey towards Truth and Reconciliation. We continue to look for ways in which to help Truth and Reconciliation through our teaching. We know this is important work and work that we need to embed in our work with our students.

This past week we sent home a fundraising opportunity to help support our band program. If you have any questions in regard to this fundraiser, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Smith for more information.

We hope everyone is able to have a fabulous Sunday out there. Have a great week.

Terry / Shannon
