Sam Shaw – Parent Message
Good afternoon and Happy New Year to all Sam Shaw families. We are excited to be back at it again tomorrow as we welcome the students back from their winter break. We hope that our families were able to have a nice holiday season and students were able to have a nice break with family and friends.
As we get back to it after the break we know that it gets busy fairly quick with the end of semester 1 coming at the end of January. This means over the next few weeks we will share the new schedules to students to prepare them for their semester 2 changes. Our grade 5 and 6 students won’t see any changes to their schedules in connection with a formal change from semester 1 to semester 2.
The month of January also brings the first formalized report card for the year. This will be an opportunity to take stock as to where your student is at in their learning as we come to the halfway point in the year. As a reminder, students are assessed in relation to the outcomes for the entire grade year, and there is still much of the year left to reinforce concepts and address areas of concern. Teachers will be busy over the next few weeks finalizing their assessments and getting the report cards ready for the end of January when they go live online. Students will be reminded over the next few weeks by their teachers about any missed assignments or projects that are outstanding that may affect their current standing.
We have been asked to relay that the Strom Store will not be available for students the first two days back as the Strom Store Team needs time to re-stock and get organized after the break.
We would also like to remind parents with the temperatures returning to normal winter expectations that our grade 5 and 6 students still have time when they head outside during the lunch break. We want our students to be able to be outside safely during these months and ask that they be dressed appropriately. When the temperatures are too cold (-20 or colder), we will arrange for the students to be inside. As we know, in Calgary the weather fluctuates a lot during the day and ask that our students are prepared for these fluctuations.
Volleyball tryouts start as we return as well. Students interested in trying out for the school team are reminded to check the Athletic bulletin board for try-out dates and times. If they need more information, they can also contact their PE Teacher. Good luck to all those trying out.
Stay warm out there this Sunday to all of you.
