Sam Shaw – Parent Message

Good morning and happy Sunday to our Sam Shaw families. We hope this finds you enjoying a new carpet of snow out there this morning. It is a reminder that we are still in the middle of winter 😊. As you send your student to school this week, please remind them of the slippery conditions that exist under that snow. Mr. Paas our facility Operator will continue to manage the sidewalks and keep them safe for our students and visitors, we want to remind everyone though that the conditions are slippery and to walk with caution.

We had many transitions this past week as we connected with our grade 7 and 9 students about the formation of two new instructional groups to help with class size at those grade levels. We appreciate the support from our parent community as we re-organize and start the new schedule tomorrow. We also had our new complimentary courses for semester 2 starting this past week for our grade 7, 8 and 9 students. The students were expressing much excitement as they started their new classes.

This past Thursday we also hosted our Winnter Concert; we want to thank all those that were able to attend the concert. They were treated to some outstanding performances by our choir and bands. Thanks to our Band Council for their support of the event and continued support of our music program. Their support helps create the conditions for great opportunities for our students, and it showed in their level of play.

With some of the changes, we want to share some of the names that go with these changes:

Mrs. Green – new Assistant Principal

Mr. Cordingley – new grade 7/9 Humanities Teacher

Mr. Tschritter – new grade 7/9 Math / Science Teacher

We would also like to welcome back Ms. Gagnon who needed to step away from the work and is excited to be back tomorrow.

It is an exciting time at Sam Shaw, and we appreciate the relationship we have with our community as we continue to create the culture of providing meaningful learning opportunities for our students.

Stay warm out there...and if you haven’t taken in the YYC Hot Choclate festival this month I would highly recommend it 😊.
