Lunch Hour Expectations
Samuel W. Shaw School is a closed campus school, meaning that students stay on site for lunch.
Students who go home for lunch every day for the whole school year will need to have parents send in a signed copy of the Off Campus Permission Form to the main office. This form can be picked up at the main office.
Lunch Supervision
Students in grade 5 and 6 eat in their classrooms under the supervision of Lunchroom Supervisors. They eat for the first half of lunch, then go outside with their supervisors. Grades 7-9 students eat in the Gathering Space, at their lockers or outside, etc. and are expected to cleanup after themselves. The Calgary Board of Education provides students with the option to stay at school for lunch. Lunch Supervision is offered to all students in Grades 1- 6 for an annual fee. Please visit our Lunch Supervision page for information.
Lunch Structure
Lunch is split in half. Grades 5 & 6 eat during the first half, then go outside for the second half. Grades 7-9 have more flexibility with when they choose to eat, and where, with the ability to go outside during the entire lunch block.
Allergies
As a number of our students have severe allergies to nuts, including peanuts, we are an Allergy Aware school. We ask for your support in protecting students with allergies by not sending foods containing tree nuts or peanuts to school. For more information about this and other health concerns see our Illness & Medical page.
