Dear Sam W. Shaw Families,

As you likely now know, our principal, Terry Baustad announced his retirement on Friday. After 32 years of unwavering service to the Calgary Board of Education, Terry can hang his hat knowing he has made a significant impact on staff and students alike over his many years of teaching and leadership. Shannon and Kerry are forever grateful for his support, and envy his additional days on the golf course coming up! From all of us at Sam Shaw, we wish Mr. Baustad a happy and fulfilling retirement, packed with all the things he loves.

Mike McMahon, our current acting principal will remain in support for the remainder of this school year.

Celebrations & Events

A big thank you to the organizers of the exciting events that have happened and will happen to end this fantastic school year! From the grade 9 farewell, to talent shows, to sports days, movie day, off-campus trips, to celebrating National Indigenous People’s Day as a school, we are coming together to celebrate what it means to be the “Storm”. We are excited to welcome Pearl White Quills to kick off our talent shows on June 24. Pearl is a Blackfoot Knowledge Keeper from Kainai, who will share her talents of singing, drumming, and dancing to help us honour Indigenous knowledge systems for National Indigenous History Month, and National Indigenous People’s Day.
Sports Day is coming on Thursday, June 26 for the students! There will be food trucks on site at lunch that day for the kids to buy themselves a little treat. Movie Day in the gym is also coming on June 25. Lots to look forward to!

Parent Society Breakfast Program

This past week, thanks to the generosity of Parent Council, we have unfolded a breakfast program for kids who need it. Grab ‘n’ Go breakfast items have been available in the Storm Store to help fill empty tummies, and will continue until the end of the school year. Thanks Parent Society!

PATs

Both the grade 6's and 9's have PATs coming up. With grade 9 ELA & Math Part A under our belts, Part B is on Tuesday. Social & Science PATs for 6's and 9's are Wednesday and Thursday this week. PAT days are full instructional days, and students reconvene in regularly scheduled classes upon completion of the exam times.
