Dear Sam W. Shaw Families
This is our final Weekly Update of the 2024/25 school year! As we conclude another remarkable school year, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for your steadfast support. Together, we've navigated change, challenges, celebrated successes, and created lasting memories for our middle school students.
Reflecting on the past year fills us with pride for our students' achievements in academics, extracurriculars, and personal growth. The humans they are, and have become unfolded in front of our eyes, and what a sight to behold it was. Like proud parents, we rally behind our students, and will continue to cheer them on whether they are with us for years to come, or are moving on to new locations. Your active involvement and feedback have enriched our community and strengthened our bonds, and for that, we thank you. Wishing you a restful summer and looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Farewell, grade 9s, and welcome to all new and returning Sam Shaw students and families.
The staffing process to hire a new principal for Samuel W. Shaw school is underway. The Area Directors care for this process, and it is hoped that we will meet the new principal prior to the end of this school year.
Below is a message regarding our modular (portable) classrooms that are exterior to the main school sent out on Friday:
Inform | Moving Modular Classrooms from Samuel W. Shaw School
Dear parents/guardians
The Government of Alberta has approved relocating four modular units from your school to Simons Valley School, which urgently needs additional learning spaces.
CBE requested the relocation of these modular units in the 2023-24 Modular Classroom Program, which was submitted to the provincial government. Relocating modular units from one school to another is a strategy to address the exceptional growth felt across many areas of our city. This move will provide much-needed learning spaces for Simons Valley School and enable many more students to attend school close to home.
We anticipate that the work to move the modulars will begin this summer and be completed by late September. Safety measures will be taken to ensure the safety of students and community members who use the playground or school site while the removal occurs. This includes enclosing the construction area, scheduling work to avoid disrupting learning and operating within specific hours according to municipal bylaws. We will update you if there are any changes to the anticipated schedule.
Please contact accomodation@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions about this announcement.
Thank you,
Calgary Board of Education

Breakfast Program
Our breakfast program, donated by Parent Council has been a smashing success. Many children have accessed the Grab ‘n’ Go items from the Storm Store location prior to the start of the first bell. From all the hungry humans at Shaw to Parent Council, thank you.

Thank you to Council for supplying every child with a welcomed cold freezie on Sports Day!

Both the grade 6s and 9s are done with their PATs! It was a collective effort to unpack the new online format, and thanks to the hard work of the PAT team here for keeping the train rolling smoothly down the track.
