Terry Fox Run

Today’s Terry Fox Run brought our Samuel W. Shaw community together in a spirit of hope, determination, and compassion. Our impactful assembly helped students understand Terry’s Marathon of Hope and how one person’s courage can inspire others to make a difference. Like Samuel W. Shaw, Terry embodied the spirit of a trailblazer and visionary, reminding us to persevere through challenges and believe in a better future. Thank you to our students and staff for carrying that spirit forward today—every step was a celebration of hope and community!

Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

This week, our school community reflected on the meaning of Every Child Matters and why truth and reconciliation are at the heart of our work. Working alongside our staff, Ms. Kerry brought together meaningful images, recorded voices, and video clips to create a moving land acknowledgement, followed by stories and examples of student learning that show what reconciliation means to them.

Each voice, story, and image offers a glimpse into the understanding and connections growing within our school. Together, they show how we are putting our learning into action—through the relationships we build, the stories we honour, and our commitment to ensuring every child feels seen, valued, and supported. This beautiful expression of our collective reconciliACTION reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility, carried forward in our everyday actions. I am deeply grateful to our students and staff for sharing their learning with such care, and proud to be part of this school community.

Inform| Video Surveillance System at SWS

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) .

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Student Spectators

Students are allowed to stay and cheer on their home teams. On hosting nights when several games are played, students can only stay for the first game. For the remaining games, students must have an adult that supervises them. Students are also asked to remain in the gym at all times as wandering around the school is not prohibited. Administration will ask students to leave if they are not supervised by an adult. These rules also apply to students visiting other schools.
