Constellation Art in Grade 9

As part of our learning about space and culture, students explored how different cultures, including Indigenous communities, use the stars to share stories and pass on important knowledge.

To deepen this learning, students visited the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory in partnership with the University of Calgary. They learned how astronomers study the night sky using telescopes and technology, and got to explore how science helps us understand stars. Back in class, students created their own constellations based on personal or cultural symbols and wrote short stories to explain their meanings. This activity combined creativity, identity, and scientific learning to help students see the sky in new ways.

Indigenous Police AcademyIn support of Indigenous student well-being and achievement, CBE schools are encouraged to share this exciting opportunity with Indigenous students aged 12–16, and their families.

The Calgary Police Service is hosting its second annual Indigenous Junior Police Academy, a unique summer experience designed to give youth a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a police officer. Participants will engage with specialized units including the Mounted Unit, HAWCS helicopters, Canine Unit, and the Indigenous Relations Team. This is a valuable opportunity for Indigenous students to build leadership skills, explore future career paths, and connect with community role models.

Grade 5, 6, and PLP will be P2 (10:08), and Grade 7, 8, and 9 will be P4 (12:09). The performance lists will be posted on June 16, so kids performing in the Talent Show can inform families then.

Sports Day - June 25

Sports Day is planned for Wednesday, June 25. Students will be participating in activities outside for Periods 1-4. Please make sure your child is prepared for a day outside in the sun (sunscreen and hats!), and that they are ready to perhaps get a little bit wet. Students are sure to work up a big appetite with all these high energy activities and fresh air, so they would benefit from packing a good filling lunch for this fun day.

Library Books - Returns are Overdue

All library books are now overdue. Please ensure your child has rooted through their rooms and backpacks to get these resources back to the Learning Commons as soon as possible!
